An even split of childcare takes most of what I clear after rent, and it has done for 5 months. I'm not asking to pay nothing, I'm asking for it to be proportional to what each of us actually earns.

Side B (age 43)

Proportional splits mean the higher earner effectively pays for someone else's career choices for the next eighteen years. Even is the only line that doesn't need renegotiating every raise.
